Wicked Whoopies

I remember making whoopie pies with mom as a kid. Rich chocolate cake filled with a marshmallow cream filling. It was always a special treat in my house. If you don't have time to bake you can still enjoy this treasured New England treat from a company in Maine called Wicked Whoopies.
Whoopies don't just come in chocolate anymore. The folks at Wicked Whoopies have created a bunch of different flavors of this beloved snack cake. I decided to that I needed to test the traditional whoopie but also wanted to try some of the creative flavors. I placed an order online where I could purchase a dozen whoopies in my choice of flavors. It was a difficult decision but I finally decided on classic, peanut butter, chocolate chip and raspberries and cream.
The classic and peanut butter flavors are both made with the traditional chocolate cake, my personal favorite. The classic was good, with a nice cream filling. The peanut butter was even better. The thick, peanut butter filling was a perfect foil for the chocolate cake. It wasn't too overpowering, just a nice marriage of flavors.
The chocolate chip whoopie has a gold cake studded with chocolate chips and filled with the standard cream filling. While this was tasty, I wasn't a fan of the gold cake. It tasted fine, but there wasn't enough contrast between the flavors of filling and cake for my taste. The raspberry and cream whoopie was also made with gold cake and filled with the cream filling and a layer of jam. Again, the individual components were okay, they just didn't wow me together. I would definitely recommend the chocolate cake flavors. Other flavor options include mint, pumpkin, and strawberry.
