Update, 4/11/2004:
I recently had the opportunity to taste some of the new products so it seemed time to update my review of Dancing Deer.
When I opened the new Orange Glazed Apricot Ginger cake, I could smell the fresh citrus scent before even unwrapping the plastic. The rich cake was studded with soft, moist pieces of diced apricots, which balanced nicely with fragrant orange and just a touch of ginger.
In the cookie department, my family found a new favorite with the Cherry Almond Ginger Chews. Studded with dried cherries and with a mild ginger flavor these were quite chewy indeed and not too sweet. I was happy to note that although ginger can often overpower other flavors, it was perfectly balanced in these chewy delights.
Dancing Deer offers seasonal treats and part of the spring collection includes Honey Bees and Lemon Butterflies, delightfully flavored shortbread cookies. These were small in size, just enough for a bite or two, and drizzled with a sweet icing.
There are plenty of products I have yet to try including the chocolate espresso cake, 10-inch chocolate brownie and a selection of pancake mixes; cherry buttermilk, double chocolate chip and ginger spice...something else to look forward to!
Original Review, 2001:
The first Dancing Deer product I ever tasted, was the Sugar Cane Lime cookies. I thought they were wonderful. The crunchy and chewy texture of a sugar cookie, but with light, refreshing lime flavor. I thought it was an original flavor combination, and they quickly became my favorite cookies.
That was, of course, until I tasted the Chocolate Tangerine cookies. Again, the same crunch and chewy texture with a deep chocolate taste the subtle splace of citrus from the Tangerine. This was now the best cookie I ever had that didn't come out of my kitchen!
Dancing Deer is also famous for their cakes though I have yet to try them. They come in several amazing flavors including; Lime Ricotta, Blueberry Sour Cream Nut, Maple Pumpkin Cranberry, and Ginger Infused Lemon.
