Blackberry Squares

1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup quick-cooking oats
3/4 cup blackberry jam

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Cream butter; gradually add sugar, beating well at medium speed of an electric mixer. Combine flour, soda, and salt; add to creamed mixture, mixing well. Stir in oats. Press half of mixture into a lightly greased 8-inch square pan. Top mixture with jam then sprinkle remaining crumb mixture on top, pressing slightly to make a firm layer. Bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes. Cool and cut into squares.
