Onion Bread

1 package dry yeast
1 cup warm water
1/2 cup chopped onion
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
3 1/2 cups bread flour
2 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon onion or garlic powder

Dissolve yeast in warm water. Add onion and oil. Sift together flour, sugar, salt, pepper and onion powder. Gradually add flour mixture to yeast mixture making a stiff dough.

Pour mixture into 2 greased 9x5-inch loaf pans. Allow to rise until double in size. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 35-40 minutes. Remove to wire rack to cool completely.
