Shoo-Fly Pie
1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust pastry
Crumb filling
1/4 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups flour
1 cup brown sugar
Combine crumb filling ingredients together.
Liquid filling
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1/8 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
a pinch each of ground ginger and ground cloves
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 cup molasses
3/4 cup hot water.
Mix dry ingredients with molasses. Stir in hot water.
Into the unbaked pie shell, alternate layers of crumb and liquid as follows:
1/3 crumb mixture
1/2 liquid mixture
1/3 crumb mixture
1/2 liquid mixture
1/3 crumb mixture
Bake in a 450 degree F. oven for 15 minutes, then reduce heat to 350 F. and bake an additional 20 minutes.
